Technological

Detailed in this section are a number of technical attributes that may relate to Internet companies.
  • Always use Internet standards. The basic standard for the Internet is IP - Internet Protocol. Other standards include HTTP, HTML, XML, and other programming and server-level standards. Specific guidelines would probably be to always use Web-based interfaces, as opposed to traditional client/server-based ones. By standardizing on Web-based interfaces to applications and services, transportability is possible.

Application development and deployment decisions should aim to embed the Internet into each and every one of those decisions. To maximize the Internet-fullness, you may have to accept less functionality to get an Internet-based product. Use leverage to force suppliers of the products you need to Internetize their products.
  • Strive for IP2 –Internet protocol + intellectual property. A basic Internet strategy is predicated on leveraging the Internet as an infrastructure for communications and computing and for incorporating intellectual property-based products and services.

  • Maximize the number of touchpoints. Create as many points where other Internet-based applications, services, and people can interact with your Internet applications and services, i.e., points where people and other Internets can touch your Internet.
