What It Means to be An Internet Company – Part 1
The fundamental essence of an Internet company is IP2:
Internet protocol + intellectual property. Above and beyond that,
however, there are some specific attributes of organizational and
organization-member behaviors and attitudes that can be ascribed as
being more or less consistent with possessing a sufficient degree of
Internetness. Please note that there are no verities contained within
this document, simply an assemblage of attributes and behaviors that
have been gleaned from observing companies within this industry for
a number of years.
Internet: (n) connectivity and computing potential afforded by
an organic, fail-safe, global network of computers, devices,
applications and people exchanging information.
Internetness: (adj) a natural or learned propensity to use the
Internet and Internet-based products and services to facilitate and
enhance personal and organizational existence.
