Mercantec is taking advantage of several conditions that exist in the online retailing market. These are:
  • A large percentage of online shoppers are frustrated by the online retail experience.
  • The cost of angering an online shopper can be especially dangerous, as it could jeopardize a company's existing "offline" brand relationship.
  • There are many point products but few fully integrated commerce architectures.
  • A collection of online retailers operating from a common e-business platform can realize synergies not available to each business individually.
  • No one really owns the virtual mall concept yet.
