Photonics has always looked to the original inventor(s) to model new technology when 'in-house' engineering did not have the expertise. In the case of Plasma, Photonics looked to the West, specifically the University of Illinois where Bitzer & Slattow invented Plasma Display technology in 1964. This exclusive technology was initially developed as a product by Owens-Illinois Glass and subsequently engineered by several small Midwest R & D companies for military and aerospace industries. The need for high quality resolution, precise motion detection, and reliability are primary specifications for these applications. Thus, Photonics chose a U.S. company that has direct ties to Owens Illinois for the purpose of development and manufacturing. The result is the highest quality plasma monitor for Home theater film-like viewing.
Today, Photonics offers it's customers the 'thinnest' flat panel TV monitor in the world at only 2-1/2" thick (mounted on the wall). Coupled with proprietary & patented technologies the E-542i displays, including esoteric video drivers and digital comb filters for the highest quality color balance in video and film reproduction today. The Photonics E-542i system implements an onboard 24 bit digital interface so that the connection field, video drivers and power supply can be located up to 40 feet away from the PDP (monitor panel). This design allows for quick implementation of 'FireWire' IEEE1394 (optional), HDTV decoders and any other future upgrades. The Photonics E-542i is Class 'B' certified for consumer installation. In addition the E-542i is rugged enough for Marine and Avionics use and certified to 10,000-foot altitude, where other plasma monitors fail at elevations well below this rating.
